My Man Friday

A terrible misfortune has befallen me. My beloved PC that I had lovingly christened "Friday" is refusing to start. Repeated attempts to coax it out of its slumber have ended in dismal failure. After the power button was switched on, the 3 cooling fans inside the cabinet roared to life only to shut down in about 5 seconds or so. Since I haven't heard the reassuring single beep that signifies the successful completion of POST, I am led to beleive the problem might be in the SMPS unit.

My worst nightmare would be if the problematic unit turned out to be the processor chip or the HDD. Some of the data in the HDD has been painstakingly collected over a period of nearly 4 years. With no backup avaialable it would be downright impossible to obtain the data elsewhere even if I had a tonsure in Tirupati for it.And with no funds currently available, it's going to take a miracle indeed to resurrect "Friday" from its current state.
